In a sweeping move to uphold the legitimacy of traditional leadership, the Ovie of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom, HRM Clement Ikolo, has issued a royal decree mandating the compulsory revalidation of all chieftaincy titles within the kingdom.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, compels all currently recognised chiefs in Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom to present themselves for revalidation beginning on May 22 and concluding on July 21, 2025.
According to the decree, failure to comply within the stipulated period will result in the automatic forfeiture of titles along with all accompanying rights and privileges. The exercise, according to His Majesty, was designed to “ensure the legitimacy and authenticity of traditional leadership” and to preserve the cultural integrity of the kingdom.
The revalidation process will be coordinated by the Secretary of the Ewu Traditional Council, Chief Henry Abizor. “There will be no exceptions. This decree is issued under the seal of His Royal Majesty and is binding on all title holders,” he added.
